Jim Ferris Trio

The Jim Ferris Trio relocated to Wilmington, NC in 2018, after being a fixture on the Raleigh jazz scene since 2008, playing throughout the region. They have been #1 on the Raleigh ReverbNation Jazz Charts since 2015 and  still hold that spot today, receiving outstanding recognition and accolades from jazz lovers of all types & ages.

Jay Killman Quartet

Jay Killman has been a professional musician for eleven years.  He performs with a wide array of acts including jazz ensembles, singer songwriter acts, hip hop groups, and fusion bands.

Over the years Jay has studied and played with numerous greats including Keith Ganz, Joey Calderrazo, Ralph Bowen, Branford Marsalis, Isaiah Sharkey, Peter DiCarlo, Jerald Shynett and more.     

 

In addition to performing, Jay is an avid composer, arranger and teacher. His arrangements have been performed at the Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC by the North Carolina Central University’s top combo and his arrangement of Corcovado was recorded by NCCU’s big band.

Aaron Van Nynatten

Aaron Van Nynatten is a guitarist and graduate of the Miles Davis Jazz Studies program at UNC Greensboro. He’s a musician and educator from Wilmington, NC. He will be joined by Ryan Mulder (Sax), Ramon Garcia Martinez (Bass), and Xavier Ware (Drums) to play music by jazz legend Wayne Shorter who passed away this year.

Lydia Salett Dudley

Lydia Salett Dudley is a bandleader for the group Jazz Xpression,  (Mercy Records) a contemporary jazz group based in Raleigh NC. The band has released several projects comprised of uniquely arranged jazz standards, holiday music and a array of various styles of modern jazz.

Bajissima latin jazz

Bajissima Latin Jazz is the newest project from bassist Natalie Boeyink. Featuring musical talent nurtured in North Carolina, Bajissma’s sound is driven by the lively and infections rhythms of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Each member of the group possesses considerable ensemble experience and limitless creativity. Natalie Boeyink,bass; Benny Hill, alto sax; Joe Dowdy, trombone; Carlos Garcia, piano; and Jonathan Hill, drums.

Brian Miller band

Brian Miller is a native of Kinston, NC and is a graduate of North Carolina Central University. Brian was first exposed to music at his church and developed a strong passion for music at an early age. By the time he graduated from high school, he played saxophone, tuba, trumpet, snare drum, bass clarinet and valve trombone. While a student at NCCU, he worked with jazz artists like Clark Terry, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Terrence Slide Hampton, Maceo Parker, Grady Tate, and Nicholas Payton, and played at the Montreux and Vienne Jazz Festivals.

 
Brian performed with the NCCU Jazz Ensemble twice at the White House for President Bill Clinton, and the band has recorded his original composition, Desmond Street. He has also performed with Tom Browne at Blues Alley, performed “On-Air” live with Branford Marsalis for WNCU 90.7 FM jazz radio,

Salome Serena Wiley, also referred to as serena bey’ is a North American eclectic, classic, human being, saxophonist and music educator. She is transformative, explorative, and a transmuter of sonic frequencies. serena bey’s highlighting moments in her career are a memory. 


Her 2018 release “The Light Under The Sun, featuring Serena Wiley,” can be found on Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, Tidal, and BandCamp. She can also be found on the 2020 freshman album ‘Phases,’ a ‘DreamRoot release, as well as on ‘Dream Roots’’ latest single ‘Bad Habits.’ 
In her performance at Jazz@The Plaza on Princess, serena bey will be accompanied by:

Mangroove Jazz Quintet

Manny Santos is a jazz percussionist/bandleader/vocalist who hails from New Bedford, Massachusetts and is of Cape Verdean decent. Manny became interested in jazz percussion at an early age and began performing professionally at the age of 15. His future would become one of polyrhythmic expressionism, inclusive of the jazz and latin experience.

Manny has worked with a host of musicians spanning an over 30-year musical career… He has worked with multiple Grammy Award Nominee and Recipient vocalist KURT ELLING (Democratic National Convention in Boston 2004), ANDRE WARD, DONALD HARRISON, MAURICE STARR, STEVEN TYLER (of AEROSMITH), RICKI FORD, RAN BLAKE, HILLIARD GREENE, WALTER BEASLEY, and the late JAKI BYARD…to name but a few.
