Several people have asked us about the announcement of a new jazz series that starts in the fall at the Cameron Art Museum. We are no longer affiliated with the CAM, and your CFJS membership will not get you a discount on the $55 tickets. We are planning our own series starting in the fall at a new, larger, more comfortable venue, and we will be announcing further details soon.

In the meantime we are planning an annual meeting before the end of the summer with food, drinks, and entertainment for our current members. So we have to ask the question:

Have you renewed your Cape Fear Jazz Society membership? Current memberships, unless you have renewed in the last few months, expire on July 1st. No more concert discounts, no more support for our jazz concerts and educational programs. Cape Fear Jazz Society is run by volunteers. All of your tax-deductible contribution goes to support jazz in the Cape Fear area. Join or renew now at www.capefearjazzsociety.org/membership-options

Our jazz performances are in the shadows of the slave quarters at Bellamy Mansion. The Cape Fear Jazz Society acknowledges the enslaved African-descended peoples who not only constructed the Bellamy Mansion, but whose forced labor helped to build the economy and city of Wilmington. As we enjoy our jazz performances, let us not forget that jazz is a musical genre that originated in African-American communities, and has given our country and the world a new and original musical art form.
