Our jazz performances are in the shadows of the slave quarters at Bellamy Mansion. The Cape Fear Jazz Society acknowledges the enslaved African-descended peoples who not only constructed the Bellamy Mansion, but whose forced labor helped to build the economy and city of Wilmington. As we enjoy our jazz performances, let us not forget that jazz is a musical genre that originated in African-American communities, and has given our country and the world a new and original musical art form.
